Country Music Magazine Pitch
Purpose of the Name:
I chose the title 'Mountain Mama' as the name for my music magazine as in the South of the United States, where country music is most prominent, there is large respect for motherhood. It is also a popular line from the well known song 'Country Roads' by Country musician John Denver. Also, the word 'Mountain' indicates wilderness which can easily be linked to the Countryside; Country music.
Purpose of my Product:
The purpose of my magazine is to inform people in the United Kingdom about country music in their area. My magazine will inform people about the upcoming country music artists within the United Kingdom as well as the best Country music of the past as there currently aren't many large country musicians. As the brand grows, thus the finance available, there would hopefully be more special features such as exclusive interviews, Q and As and hopefully articles about country venues in the United Kingdom areas if the popularity of the genre grows within the area.
Genre of my Product:
My product is a country music magazine. Through my research, I have found that there is essentially no country music scene in the United Kingdom, let alone, in London. I have decided with my associate that we will attempt to bring a country music scene into the United Kingdom as we are sure that there will be a large amount of people who enjoy listening to the genre.
Target Audience:
My primary target audience will be those in a social grade of A to C1 caucasian British males who are aged 35 to 55. This is because the majority of classic country music was created 30 to 60 years ago. Due to this, I would assume that most listeners would be middle aged males. A secondary target audience may be hipster type characters aged 19 to 30 who listen to country music ironically as it is usually associated with Republican views and hipsters tend to have more democratic views politically speaking. As hipsters tend to have more of night-life thus making them more likely to go out more than the primary audience due to their age. Because of this, and if the magazine becomes popular, it is possible that country music venues open up in locations such as Shoreditch and Camden Town.

Marketing methods
My magazine is going to do a collaboration with Dollar Shave Club in order to appeal to the primary audience. If the consumer subscribes to Dollar Shave Club and uses the code 'John Denver' then they receive a three month subscription to 'Mountain Mama'. This should make the audience grow. To appeal to its secondary audience, at Spring Break parties, a helicopter will drop 50,000 condoms which will read 'Mountain Mama' on them. These are sure to be used by the youth attending the function. It will also cause these young people to have a sense of relief and gratitude when the name 'Mountain Mama' comes to mind. This marketing method is derivative of Ryan Howard's for the popular social media website WUPHF.com. I understand that you may have concerns about it mainly because the website failed 9 days after this marketing method was proposed, however, this was mainly due to the lack of funding and organisation the company desperately needed. 'Mountain Mama' will most likely not have this problem.
Form of my Product
My product will be in digital form. This is mainly due to its secondary audience, hipsters, who would most likely be environmentally conscious. This would also be useful to the magazine's primary audience as it would be assumed that most middle aged males in social grades A-C1 would have a technological device such as a kindle or laptop allowing them to read the issues of 'Mountain Mama'. Also, in case there is fear of the primary audience not being technologically savvy enough, as they are middle aged, they will most likely be able to enter their payments and to read the magazine successfully. Also, my magazine will be a monthly magazine. Despite 40% of adults (15+) in the United Kingdom who consume magazines weekly instead of 21% who consume them monthly, due to the finite amount of country music based topics in the United Kingdom and in the US and due to there not being a growing demand for the genre yet. However, if demand and content increase, then the magazine amount may be increased to it coming out weekly. My product will cost a flat fee of 3.99 GBP per issue. However, there will be a yet to be determined amount for annual copies which will obviously save the consumer money so they have incentive to pay for it bringing up the chances that they will be a loyal customer. Also, I would see to it to make it hard to cancel any annual memberships to maximise profits.

You might want to think about presentation. For example, the resources section would be easier to navigate if set out in a table.
ReplyDeleteI also (as you know) have an issue with the title of the magazine. It doesn't send a great message about country music, especially in the UK ...
