Codes and convention=System of sign, which create meaning. Codes are video/audio, conventions group together to make a genre. i.e. eerie music builds tension and creates suspense which link to a specific genre For this task, you are going to analyse the codes and conventions of a magazine cover and double page spread Masthead is unconventionally small and in the top left and bright red. This contrasts with the blue background as they are opposites on the colour wheel. The red matches McCathy's signature which is in the middle (emphasised) of the front cover Slogan is quite cliche and is above masthead Cover lines, bylines and feature article relate to the genre. Text size is large. It is laid out in a Z pattern meaning that it knows its viewers read from left to right and from up to down.

Good photographs have three elements in common Good subject Good lighting Good composition Shot Types Establishing Shot: A shot taken from a distance- used to help the audience get an idea of the scene-location, time, etc Often used at the beginning of a scene It may be used to show where the shot is taking place. Long Shot A shot taken well back from a subject. If it’s of s person, the shot will show the whole body. Mid shot A shot of a person to just below the waist or elbows Close-up shot A shot which shows the whole of the face (or specific body part) but no other part of the body. May be used to show facial features or emotion Low Angle A shot where the camera is placed below the subject. Creates sense of powerfulness High Angle a shot taken above the subject. Some music venues located in North London are ‘Vortex’, ‘KOKO’, ‘Studio 88’, ‘The Dublin Castle’, ‘Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen’, ‘Roundhouse’, ‘The Lexington’, ‘The Old Blue Last’, and ‘Nambucca’ Some genres features in these music venues are jazz, reggae, indie, rock, dance music, and soul.
